Solaris (1972) was a Russian science fiction movie directed by Andrei Tarkovsky, based on the novel Solaris (1961) by Polish author Stanisław Lem.

A deeply enigmatic work, it has often been compared with Stanley Kubrick‘s 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).

Solaris PosterTarkovsky returned to science fiction with Stalker (1979).
