The Coming Race

Edward Bulwer-Lytton‘s The Coming Race (1871) is a gothic utopian novel.

Bulwer-Lytton’s occult background lead many to claim that the books was, in fact, true, and during the 18th and 19th Century writers like  Louis Jacolliot claiming to give first-hand witness accounts of its use among the Jains, and theosophists Helena Blavatsky and William Scott-Elliot also claiming the power was real. The word lives on today in the name of the beef-flavoured gunge Bovril.
