Nineteen Eighty-Four

Intro

Nineteen Eighty-Four (1954) was a BBC TV adaptation of George Orwell‘s dystopian novel Nineteen Eight-Four (1949) written by Nigel Kneale and produced by Rudolph Cartier.

Kneale would return to dystopian sf with his satirical play The Year of the Sex Olympics (1968), this time dealing with an affluent, hedonistic society, also subject to significant language reduction, and Quatermass (1979), the apocalyptic conclusion to his Quatermass series.
