A popular theme in cyberpunk sf, including William Gibson’s Sprawl trilogy, Neuromancer (1984), Count Zero (1986) and Mona Lisa Overdrive (1988), as well as his short stories “Johnny Mnemonic“, “New Rose Hotel” and “Burning Chrome” (reprinted in the collection Burning Chrome, 1986) which are set in the same fictional universe.
